Evidence session on policing and organisation of vigils

The Home Affaiis Select Committee is seeking evidence on the policing of vigils held over the weekend of 13 and 14 March 2021. This followed the tragic death of Sarah Everard.

Different approaches were taken to the preparation and policing for the different assemblies held across the country. Many passed without incident, however there were clashes between police and attendees, notably at Clapham Common.

The evidence session sceduled for 24 March is an opportunity for the Committee to take evidence from people involved about their perspectives of the events that took place. This will include the reasoning behind different approaches to policing and organisation, and the impact this had on how different events were managed. It will also look for what lessons can be learned from these events.
